CHAPTER 13
VAASTU GROUNDRULES FOR FLATS AND APARTMENTS-IV
- A guest room in the flat should be in the Northwest corner. Alternatively can be located in the Southeast sector. But at no cost, the guest room can be located in the Southwest corner. While placing cots in the bedroom, it should be ensured that more open space is left in the North and East side by placing the cots towards the Southwest of the room. Keep the Northeast corner of every room vacant. If possible, place in the Northeast corner of every room a light pot filled with water. The breadth of each room should not be less than half the length of the room. Wherever the ratio is 1:2 or less, placement of mirrors or reflective materials on the Northern or Eastern wall whichever is longer will be beneficial and curative. The overall length of the flat also should not exceed twice the breadth. Whenever a beam or pillar crosses over the room space, the inmates are advised not to sit or sleep under the beam as their thinking process could be disturbed and the mind can become wavering under the beam. It is better to conceal the beams through interior decoration with the help of false ceilings wherever required.
-
All electrical/ electronic gadgets and appliances such as table fans, TVs, refrigerators, microwave ovens, fax machines, computers, table lamps, heaters, toasters, air-conditioners, geysers, electrical control boards, stabilizers should be kept in the Southeast sector or alternatively in the Northwest sectors of their respective rooms. The right direction for exhaust fans is Northwest. One should avoid purchasing topmost floor flat (the flat in the last floor) which comes under an overhead tank that is placed on the slab directly. However, a flat on any other floor can be purchased if it conforms to other regulations of Vaastu Shastra. As far as possible, one can avoid purchasing flats which have bathrooms and toilets in the Northeast and Southwest directions. Similarly, one should not purchase a flat which has balconies only in the South or a flat which has more openings by way of windows and balconies in the South and West. An individual flat which is L or C shaped resulting in a Northeast truncation or cut or Southwest truncation or cut should never be purchased. Flats with corners circular in shape, curved or having more than four sides should also be rejected.
-
Vehicles can be parked in the underground room in the East or North of the apartment building. It should be noted that there should not be underground room in the South or West directions. As far as possible, vehicles should be parked in such a manner that they have their faces towards the North or East with the exception of South. Parking in the Southeast or Northwest sectors would be more beneficial.
-
Tall and heavy trees such as Ashoka, Eucalyptus should be planted along the West and South sides of the apartments. Never grow heavy trees in the open space in the East and North sides of the apartment. North and East sectors of the plot should be used only for lawn and light plants. Gardening, as far as possible, also to be avoided in the South and Southwest space around the apartment.
Vaastu Guidelines for Flat Owners
Due to lack of space and unavoidable reasons, sometimes, the flat owner may not be able to incorporate all the required Vaastu corrections or changes in his flat. In such a situation, the flat owner should follow the following guidelines:-
Keep all the heavy items or goods along the Southern and Western walls.
When kitchen cannot be relocated as required, atleast place the oven in the Southeast corner or alternatively in the Northwest corner of the kitchen and ensure that the gas connection is preferably in the Southeast or alternatively in the West.
Let the sink in the kitchen be towards the East of Northeast.
When the bedrooms cannot be relocated, atleast while sleeping keep the head towards the South and legs towards the North. Please also avoid Northeast room for the master bedroom.
Keep always the Northeast sector of the flat, every room clean and vacant.
If the flats main door is in the inauspicious direction, keep it closed when not in use. Open it only when required. Place a mirror of at least 2 ft X 2 ft. size on the Eastern or Northern Wall in front of the inauspicious main entrance. These principles are also applicable for other inauspicious doors in the flat.
Pictures of favourable deities can be hung on the Eastern or Western walls. God pictures should face only East or West. Pictures of the departed souls should be placed on South wall only. Avoid hanging pictures of battle-scenes, wild animals, birds like eagle etc., in the flat. Do not keep photographs of dead persons in the prayer rooms.
Light indoor plants can be kept in the North, East and Northeast sectors of your rooms. You may place heavy indoor plants in the South, West and Southwest corners of your rooms.
Keep the windows and other openings in the Northeast, North and the East. Always fully open. While using curtains, use thicker and heavier curtains for the Southern and Western openings, and thinner and softer curtains for the Northern and Eastern openings.
Keep the closets in the toilets aligned with North-South axis facilitating facing only North or South.
Do not sit, study or sleep under beams.
While studying or meditating, always face East. Similarly, facing North for doing business related work at home will be helpful.
Do not face South for any activity.
Place your chest or safe in the Southwest corner of the Southwest bedroom facilitating its opening towards North. This will help improving finances and revenues of the family.
Vaastu Tips for Booking a Flat
It is always not possible for a person to get everything according to the groundrules of Vaastu Shastra in the flat. But before purchasing a flat, one can easily visualize the optimum beneficial things available in the flat. Certainly there is no harm in booking or purchasing a flat that is 65% to 80% positively conforming to the regulations of Vaastu Shastra. The following important guidelines to be applied before selecting or booking a flat.
Flats which have balconies in the Eastern and Northern directions are supposed to be the best. Those flats are also good if they have balconies only in the East or in the North.
Flats which have balconies only in the West are of medium quality.
Avoid booking a flat which has a balcony only in the South and/or Southwest.
Do not purchase flats which have toilets and kitchens in the Northeast.
One should never purchase L or C shaped flats and also flats without corners or having curved, circular and unsystematic shape.
As far as possible, purchase a rectangular or square flat.
Flats having more windows in the East and North are most preferred. The flat which have windows in the West, East or North can also be purchased. But flats having windows only in the South should never be purchased.
Try to avoid purchasing flats which have bathrooms in the Southwest and Southeast corners as, generally it is not easier to change the place of bathrooms in the flat.
Do not purchase the flat having cut or truncation or staircase in the Northeast corner.
